As a cello major, Fiona Patterson is well-acquainted with the concert repertoire for the instrument. Among her favorite pieces (and mine) is Antonin Dvorak’s cello concerto. Here, it’s performed by the late Jacqueline du Pre.
Jacqueline du Pre was an English cellist born in 1945. In 1973, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, effectively ending her career as a performer. She passed away in 1987 at the age of 42. She is considered one of the greatest cellists of all time. Her life story is told in the film, Hilary and Jackie.
